World’s oldest blogger is an NRI

96 year old Randall Butisingh is the oldest blogger in the world. An NRI based in Florida, Butisingh was recently awarded the Greypow Award for best senior site by the websitelifebeginsat80.com. The latter lists the best senior sites on the web on a regular basis.Born in British Guyana in 1912, he grew up in Buxton, East Coast Demerara. After passing the school leaving examination in 1927, he began his career as a teacher by becoming a pupil teacher at age 15. He continued in the profession for 45 years. Butisingh retired in 1972. He has seven children, 19 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. The American Poetry Association has recognized him as a Poet of Merit after evaluating the three books of poems that he has written. Philosophy, politics, environment, economics, psychology, poetry, history, and religion are the topics that he covers in his blog. Priyamani is Shoorpanakha in Mani Ratnam’s movies

Priyamani has variety of roles and tags attached to her career as an actress. She has treaded both paths of film making – commercial and art – and has emerged a winner in both of them. A poster girl for the youth and a fine actress for the followers of good cinema, she is the best of both worlds. No surprises as to why she is one of the most sought after actress in all South Indian languages. It’s high time that she graduated to Bollywood and Mani Ratnam has taken up the task of giving her the best Bollywood debut that she could have. The ace director is currently involved in the making of two movies with the same storyline – one in Hindi and the other in Tamil. Titled “Raavan” in Hindi and “Raavana” in Tamil, the plot of the movies mirror the Indian epic – Ramayana. Insiders say it’s a modern adaptation with a different take on the epic. The cast is pretty much the same in both versions. The actors involved with the projects include Abhishek Bachchan, Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Bipasha Basu, Govinda, Prithviraj, Prabhu Ganeshan and Ravi Kishen. The actors will find this as a chance to familiarize with the language and movie making style of the other industry. The Raavan-Raavana project is one of Mani’s most ambitious projects since Yuva. So where does our pretty girl come in? Priyamani has been roped in for the role of Shoorpanakha in both movies. She’ll be Abhishek’s sister in the Hindi movie and Vikram’s sister in the Tamil one. The role had been offered to many actresses in the north and south. But many chose to turn it down as they found it an unwise choice to be cast as Abhishek’s or Vikram’s sister, whichever the case might be. We believe that Priyamani who is also a National Film Award winner, made the right choice of opting in for the role, that will let both the north and south be aware of her prowess as an actress.

Is Katrina on Twitter?

Login to Twitter and key in “Katrina Kaif” in the “Find people” search box and hit enter. You’ll be treated to more than a dozen birdies with that name. Some claiming to be Katrina while the rest claiming to be fake IDs which are better than the original (?). Twitter has the same problem just like any other social networking website. Credibility of the ID is still an unresolved issue with many of these sites. Though Twitter has initiated a process to classify and tag the real IDs, it’s still in the trial stage. So what’s the best way to know whether your favourite stars are on Twitter? Simple. You ask them.

Katrina’s answer is – NO. She isn’t part of any networking site. And she is not happy with the way some people are using fake IDs with her name on Twitter.

But there is good news. She will be launching her own website towards the end of the year. Katrina is on the top of Google’s most searched keywords list and starting her own website will lead the admirer straight to the idol herself. The website will be managed by a team, but all the content including pictures will be picked and approved by Kat. She also intends to add exclusive photos and pictures taken by her as major attractions. The site is in the final stages with two top web designers from Britain in charge of the site’s packaging.

A word to those who are hoping for a section in the site with details on her day-to-day activities – sorry, there won’t be any such section. Kat likes to keep her privacy and doesn’t like the world to know her every move. That’s more charming. Isn’t it?

Surya getting his Hindi right for Bollywood debut

Ram Gopal Verma is a difficult director to comprehend completely. No one knows what’s in his mind. He makes a fabulous movie and follows that up with a disastrous one. So that makes the actors a bit careful while taking up a role in an RGV movie. It can either make or break somebody’s career. But south’s young gun, Surya seems to have placed his trust on RGV.

Surya is entering Bollywood with RGV’s new project Raktha Charithra. With work out and Hindi classes taking up much of his time, the versatile actor doesn’t seem to be worried about the fate of his predecessors who failed in Bollywood. Veterans like Kamal Hassan and Nagarjuna have come and gone without creating any major impression on the Hindi film industry. The ladies on the other hand have had a great share of luck. Rekha, Sridevi and Hema Malini came from south and conquered north.

Surya’s principle seems to be simple; think about what can be done and not about what can’t be done. The hero of the original Ghajini is a noted and respected figure in Bollywood and so are his movies. The actor’s script selection is considered to be brilliant and that gives his movies the potential to be remade into other languages. The last time we checked, some Bollywood biggies are interested in remaking Surya’s blockbuster hit, Aaiyan. Our suggestion – remake it with him in the lead.

Women rule Big Boss 3

Big Boss a.k.a the desi version of Celebrity Big Brother, has kicked off its third season with a lot of surprises. The second season’s anchor, Shilpa Shetty has made way for none other than the Big B himself – Amitabh Bachchan. By the way, we find the association between Mr. Bachchan’s nickname (Big B) and the name of the show Big Boss quite amusing. Opinion is divided on Big B’s decision to host a show like Big Boss which does have the TRP ratings but not the good graces of all.

Back to the story. The third installment seems to be crowded with pretty faces from the entertainment industry. We can’t call them stars as such, because if they were stars then they won’t be in a reality show. Sarcastic lines apart, we do have resident beauties Shamita Shetty, Sherlyn Chopra, Aditi Govitrikar and yesteryear leading lady Poonam Dhillon in the house. Did we miss someone? Yes we did. There is Rakhi Sawant’s melodramatic mother Jaya Sawant to contribute to all the drama.

Shamita Shetty had made her debut with Mohabbatein in 2000 and lost footing thereafter. She had a string of average movies and flops with the last outing being Anubhav Sinha’s Cash. We do hear that Shilpa didn’t prefer her sister going into the furnace that’s the Big Boss house. Sweet indeed. Hope Shamita has learnt a bunch of tips from her sister on how to score in the house.

Sherlyn Copra on the other hand can’t be classified into any particular category as such. She is a model who claims to be an actress who claims to be a singer. We do admit the facts that she is gorgeous and outspoken - interesting qualities which the audience love to see in the house residents.

Aditi Govitrikar has always maintained composure in social and media circles. But it remains to be seen as to whether she’ll be part of the brash cat fights.

We do place our bets on one between Shamita and Sherlyn though. Meow…
